DESCRIPTION:Join Preservation Dallas on their Fall Tour and safely explore at Dallas’ most notable cemeteries.  With tour stops around the city\, you will be able to see a vast array of timeless landscapes abundant with historic grave markers\, mausoleums and statuary.  You do not want to miss this on Halloween weekend!  The tour will be a one day showcase of some of the most famous burial sites in Dallas including multitudes of local architects\, business leaders\, baseball players\, some good guy and some bad guys. \nThe day will begin at the Hillcrest Mausoleum (1937\, Anton Korn) with check in and a discussion highlighting cemetery history\, evolution and the built environment.  Moderated by Dallas Municipal Archivist John Slate\, the symposium panel includes Sparkman/Hillcrest Vice President Teresa Schnur\, Dallas Genealogical Society Past President Tony Hanson as well as Versar Cultural Resources Lead Michelle Wurtz.  This entire day will be filled with beautiful structures and stories\, and the great outdoors\, and you do not want to miss it!  Check in for the tour begins at 8:30 a.m.  The symposium begins at 9 a.m.\, and cemeteries are open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Attendees are REQUIRED to check in at Hillcrest Mausoleum.  Face masks are required for the symposium at Hillcrest Mausoleum. \nThe tour includes the symposium and tour at Hillcrest Mausoleum as well as the seven cemetery stops below.  Tickets are $30 for Preservation Dallas members and $40 for the public.  Reservations are required and non refundable. \n More Information

One way is to upload your RAW DNA data to www.GEDmatch.com. \nGEDmatch.com is a website which allows users to share their DNA information with others to accelerate genealogical research and perform DNA match comparisons. \nThis presentation includes examples of GEDmatch usage and: \nHow to download your RAW DNA results and begin using GEDmatch.com \nThe benefits of GEDmatch \nCompare your autosomal DNA with other users from different testing sites \nIdentify potential relatives who have also uploaded their RAW DNA \nContact your DNA matches via email \nAid in adoptee searching for birth family \nTools available on the GEDmatch site include: \nSorting results by closest matches \nGenetic ‘distance’ of relative \nApproximate generation to a common ancestor \nTier 1 – $10 membership required to use \nSearch match segments with Triangulation \nA custom comparison system \nPhasing: if ONE parent has uploaded their RAW DNA to GEDmatch\, and a child has tested\, the second parent’s DNA matches can be extracted\, if the second parent is not available for testing. \nOpt-in Policy for law enforcement \nGEDmatch has been acquired by Verogen\, Inc. He specializes in southern brick wall problems for clients. \nKelvin is a 1989 and 1990 alumnus of the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research at Samford University and has returned to IGHR as lecturer in the Southern Course and the Professional Courses. \nHe is member of the Association of Professional Genealogist forensic special interest group and a past board member of APG\, a past President of the Lone Star Chapter of APG\, and a former member for the Council for the Advancement of Forensic Genealogy (CAFG). He currently serves as the chairman of the history and archives committee of First United Methodist Church in Dallas. \nThe Dallas Genealogical Society awarded Kelvin the Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck Distinguished Service Award in December of 2018. In 2016 Kelvin published Research in Texas for NGS (National Genealogical Society) Research in the States series. Kelvin is also the director of the Texas Institute of Genealogical Research (TIGR) sponsored by the Texas State Genealogical Society.
