He holds an undergraduate degree from Austin College\, graduate degrees in philosophy\, theology\, and history from Harvard\, Columbia\, and Fordham Universities\, and is retired from thirty-five years in college teaching.  He also holds a graduate degree and graduate certificates in library science and archival management.  Richard is a two-time Past Master and current Secretary of Dallas Masonic Lodge No. 760 and has served as a presiding officer or grand officer in most Masonic appendant bodies.  He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Grand Lodge Masonic Education and Service Committee and as Librarian\, Archivist\, and Historian of the Dallas Scottish Rite Library & Museum.

Alonso De Leon\, the Younger\, named “La Santisima Trinidad“ (our present day Trinity River) in 1690 during these expeditions. \nGus is the President of Hogar de Dallas.  He is directly descended from the author\, the de Leons\, as well as several other members of the expedition party discussed in the book.

Ms. Wilkins has presented at the National Genealogical Society\, Federation of Genealogical Societies\, Texas State Genealogical Society\, Ohio Genealogical Society\, Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research\, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy\, American Library Association\, RootsTech\, and a multitude of local societies. \nAri has been a Library Associate at Dallas Public Library since 2007\, teaching a series of basic research classes using popular genealogical websites. She is an author\, researcher\, and instructor whose focus is genealogy\, social and women’s history. She holds a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology and Women’s Studies) and a Master’s degree in Religion. \nHer presentation will be Celebrating the Vote: 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage: The 19th amendment was passed in 1919 and ratified in 1920\, ending a long struggle for women’s voting rights\, but some women were already voting and leaving a record trail. When did your female ancestor first vote? What records survive? And what can we learn about her based on extant records? \nGena’s  published works include three books\, numerous articles published in magazines and online\, two volumes of Tracing Female Ancestors (Moorshead Publishing)\, Tracing Your Ancestors: Hispanic Research (Moorshead Publishing) and a QuickGuide from Legacy Family Tree. \nShe is the editor of the Utah Genealogical Association’s magazine\, Crossroads. Her writings can be found on her blogs\, Gena’s Genealogy and Food.Family.Ephemera as well as the GenealogyBank and Legacy Family Tree blogs. \nShe is a course instructor for The National Institute for Genealogical Studies and has written courses on topics involving websites\, social media\, and ethics. \nShe has presented to diverse groups worldwide including the National Genealogical Society Conference\, the Alberta Genealogical Society Conference\, the Geo-Literary Society\, Daughters of the American Revolution\, and the Legacy Family Tree Webinar series. \nHer research projects include Sowerby’s British Mineralogy: Its Influence on Martha Proby and Others in the Scientific Community during the 19th Century for the Gemological Institute of America\, as well as genealogical research for the first season of PBS’s Genealogy Roadshow and the Travel Channel’s Follow Your Past. \nHer current research includes women’s repatriation and citizenship in the 20th century\, foodways and community in fundraising cookbooks\, and women’s material culture.

Stephanie’s passions are connecting genealogy researchers with resources and making genealogy materials more accessible. DESCRIPTION:Join us starting at 10:30 for hospitality and mingling.  The business meeting starts at 11:00\, followed by our featured speaker around 11:30. \nOur presentation this month\, ‘Discover New Ancestral Information by Connecting Through Social Media‘\, will be made by our Director of Volunteer Coordination Patti Huff Smith. \nSocial networking tools are a great means for finding additional information about your ancestors and connecting with those researching your family.  It allows you to discover living relatives\, connect with unknown family members and stay in touch with ones we know. This program will focus on how to create a Facebook page with a genealogical focus with emphasis on how to keep it interesting and engaging. \nPatti Huff Smith’s passion for her family history began when her then 15-year-old son developed an enthusiasm for the Civil War. The two of them began searching for documentation of their Civil War Veterans. This ignited a passion for genealogy research which has grown with each new\, fascinating discovery. \nWith the assistance of her 93-year-old grandmother and the genealogy community\, Patti has learned research techniques\, attended genealogy conferences\, and workshops to expand her understanding of genealogy and DNA. At this time\, Patti is managing 52 of her family DNA kits. She has applied her knowledge to equip others in their own journey. \nPatti’s deep southern roots include her maternal 3x’s great grandfather\, John W. Crook\, sheriff of Hill County in 1857!  He served in several public positions\, including Treasurer in Hill County during the Civil War. The Crook family lived in Navarro County where her 2x’s great grandfather was a house painter.
