SUMMARY:The Challenges of Jewish DNA Testing by Kitty Monson Cooper - Jewish Special Interest Group Virtual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This month’s meeting will feature Kitty Monson Cooper\, who will be discussing “The Challenges of Jewish DNA Testing“. \nKitty is a well-known blogger on genetics and genealogy. She started blog.kittycooper.com  in 2012 to keep track of her own family’s DNA tests as well as her genealogical research. Then she added some tools she wrote for working with DNA relationships. Between the tools and the simple step by step pictorial explanations written for her relatives\, the blog soon became extremely popular. It currently gets several thousand unique visitors a day. Her popularity earned her a spot on the top ten Rockstar genetic genealogists list in the last several years. \nRead More About Kitty...\nKitty's interest in family history and genealogy started at her beloved Aunt Marion's funeral in 1997 when she realized that many stories had died with her aunt. She resolved not to let any more of them be forgotten and started collecting stories and family data from that day forward. \nHer interest in DNA dates back to high school biology where she was fascinated to realize it was her genes that caused her to  look so like her father and even have his blue eyes while her brother had their mother's brown eyes. Her father was 100% Norwegian American and her mother was born in Munich to a Jewish father and Bavarian mother\, an interesting DNA mixture. Kitty was able to test her dad\, both maternal aunts\, and her brother plus many cousins for an endlessly interesting family DNA project. \nKitty started programming computers in 1966 while still in high school and recently retired from her own small web development business. In her spare time she has created a number of tools for the genetic genealogy community for displaying pictures of whom their DNA is from\, showing overlapping segments\, grouping the DNA overlaps\, and converting ahnentafel lists to GEDcoms. \nShe has a cum laude degree from Harvard University and is also a World Champion Bridge player. Born and raised in New York City\,  she now lives in Lakeside\, California (East San Diego County) with her husband Steve and their dog Kyndra. They have over an acre and more than 20 fruit trees. Gardening is another hobby of hers. \n\nClick on this link to join the call: you will need to enter your personal Zoom UserID and Password: https://zoom.us/j/99894121742?pwd=c25uazV6RGJ4WUlKVFFPbmFzVzRTdz09 \nFor more information\, see the Jewish SIG page. \n
