SUMMARY:Cedar Hill Genealogy Society Monthly Program
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Emily Coffman Richardson \n\n\n\nTopic: Using Documentation – Identifying Documentation as found in Genealogical Records with an Eye on Proof and Citations \n\n\n\nThis program is for the beginner and the seasoned genealogist alike. It will help us better understand the sources we have found\, with a grasp of information and evidence. \n\n\n\nData without documentation are just stories\, not facts. Documentation shows the quality of sources used for our research and making our conclusions. Proper documentation avoids repetitive research and plagiarism. This will help us understand what needs to be documented and why documentation is a critical skill for all genealogists. \n\n\n\nDownload Handout \n\n\n\nOur Meeting begins at 7:00pm but please join us on Zoom at 6:30 PM for socializing. Admission is free and guests are always welcome. \n\n\n\n\nJoin Meeting

SUMMARY:Spring Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Going Beyond the Bare Bones: Reconstructing Your Ancestors’ Lives – Attendees will learn four ways to assemble information from frequently used genealogical sources to create biographies that will bring ancestors to life. Case studies will illustrate the options.\n\n\n\nBuilding a Case with Scant Evidence – A case study demonstrates detecting\, assembling\, and interpreting scarce direct\, indirect\, and negative evidence and using it to prove negatives and correct entrenched errors.\n\n\n\nBuilding a Credible Lineage\, Despite Missing Information\, Conflicting and Incorrect Records\, and Undocumented Publications – A case study teaches how to establish credibility of undocumented genealogies\, merge seemingly separate identities\, remedy record errors\, resolve conflicting evidence\, and separate same-named men.\n\n\n\nSolutions for Missing and Scarce Sources – Attendees will learn strategies for overcoming research barriers caused by lost or destroyed records\, poor record-keeping\, or a simple lack of records.\n\n\n\n\n\nMORE INFO

SUMMARY:DPL: Using Ephemera in Family History Research
DESCRIPTION:In-person & Virtual \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEphemera is a fancy word for items that were intended to have a temporary nature\, often hand-written and disposable\, that have persisted through the years. This could include postcards\, ticket stubs\, and other items you might find in a scrapbook. Utilizing ephemera can help deepen our family histories\, provide visual and/or other context to a location or culture\, and make tangible memories we might not have lived ourselves. See real-life examples of how ephemera helped bring a family history story back to life. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER
