2022 Writing Contest: Your Family’s Black Sheep

Do you have a pirate or an outlaw in your family? A “gal who done him wrong”? A bootlegger, bank robber, or all-around loser? Then you have a black sheep.

For the DGS 2022 Writing Contest, we’re asking you to trot out your black sheep and tell all. Worthy articles will be selected for publishing in the DGS eNews during 2022. At the end of the year, we will pick a winner. The prize is a free 1-year membership to DGS for 2023!

Contest rules:
  • Articles should be between 300–2000 words, exclusive of source notes.
  • Articles must be in Word or other text format.
  • Subjects can be anyone in your research.
  • Submissions must be received between 15 Nov 15 2021 – 15 Nov 2022. Winner will be announced in the January 2023 DGS eNews
  • By entering the contest, you agree that DGS has your permission to publish and archive your article. You agree that you have the rights to publish any image provided to us with your article. All images must include source information.
  • There will be no compensation for the publication of your work; you retain the copyright. Previously published articles may not be eligible, unless you hold the copyright.
