Researchers can find extraordinary information about families using newspapers. NewspaperArchive.com was the first commercial newspaper archive online. The archives contain more than 15,495+ different titles from every US state and twenty-eight other countries around the world. Every newspaper in the archive is fully searchable by keyword, date, place, and title. DGS funded the first year’s subscription in early 2020. Researchers can access the subscription site from the Dallas Central Library.

Our members and other donors generously gave $1804 in 2022.

North Texas Giving Day was held on September 17th in 2020. DGS members and friends generously gave a total of $1,724!

DGS will use these gifts to help fund a second year’s subscription to the NewspaperArchive.com subscription website in the Genealogy Section at the Dallas Central Public Library.

When the library re-opens, researchers can access one of the largest online newspaper repositories available. NewspaperArchive.com contains 413 years of newspaper archives, from 1607 to 2020. You will be able to research your family history in newspapers from 47 countries and all 50 U.S. states. As of today, the database includes 15,685+ historical newspaper titles, with more to come. The newspapers are fully searchable, and you can access the newspaper images.

The DGS Board of Directors wishes to give a big thanks to our donors. Your generosity provides an opportunity for researchers to make exciting discoveries.

For 2018 we set a goal of raising $2,570 to preserve our historical newsletters. Published from 1976 through 2015, these newsletters document the activities of the society during its most active period and contain articles and information that are of interest to historians and family history researchers. Once digitized, the images will be publicly available on the Portal to Texas History.

Financial Results:

  • $1,830.03 – North Texas Giving Day 2018
  • $1000.00 – Rescuing Texas History Grant from the University of North Texas Libraries

About $2,800 – Total funds raised.

Any funds left over after digitization has been completed will be donated to The Cathy Nelson Hartman Portal to Texas History Endowment fund

In 2017 we raised funds to digitize and archive our Quarterly Journal that was published from 1955 through 1994. These publications document the early history of our society as well as the research contributed by our members throughout these formative years. Once digitized they will be archived and publicly available on the Portal to Texas History operated by the University of North Texas.

At present these publications are being digitized and the images and associated data are being prepared so they can be made available on the Portal to Texas History. Publication is anticipated in early 2020.
