DPL Volunteer Program

Volunteers who do not live in the city of Dallas can earn a Dallas Public Library card (with genealogical database access) after 20 hours of DPL Volunteer Service.

You can do this by volunteering in-person on the 8th floor.

  • Scanning special collections materials.
  • Helping with DPL genealogy programs.
  • Shelving Etc. (more opportunities are forthcoming)

You can also accumulate hours by volunteering at Dallas Genealogical Society/DPL co-sponsored event that are free and open to the public.

  • Running (technology, hospitality, etc.) hybrid meetings that meet at the library.
  • SIG Leaders who facilitate hybrid meetings from the library.
  • Does NOT apply to Seminars.

To become a DPL volunteer and earn hours:

  • Check the Dallas Genealogical Society box under affiliations. 
  • From the assignment box select the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library 8th floor assignment that best fits what you want to do.
