Autosomal Analysis: Tools for Finding Your Ancestors

September 28, 2024

Our Spring Seminar, Summer and Fall Seminar events feature nationally known speakers who are authorities on the topics they are presenting. Our recent speakers have included the following:

  • Michael L. Strauss
  • Cyndi Ingle
  • Judy Russell
  • Michael D. Lacapo
  • Thomas W. Jones
  • David A. Lambert
  • Jen Baldwin
  • David E. Rencher
  • J. Mark Lowe
  • D. Joshua Taylor
  • Lisa Louise Cooke
  • Sunny Morton
  • Diahan Southard
  • Thomas W. Jones
  • Curt Witcher
  • Denise Levenick
  • Paul Milner

Feedback from our attendees is overwhelmingly positive. Here are a few typical examples:

  • Loved the idea of social context related to family not just for story telling but also for research. Had not thought in these terms much!
  • Keep up the great work. I appreciate this. Just recently rejoined after being out for a while. Very impressed with what you are doing now.
  • I thought David Rencher’s presentation was excellent. He is knowledgeable and is able to get the information across in a way that everyone understands. He kept the attention of his audience and was an enjoyable speaker.
  • Maybe the best genealogy seminar I ever attended.
  • I enjoyed every session by the speaker, especially the examples. I also enjoyed his lecture of finding African American families and the strategies he employed in his case examples.
  • Very motivational, which is what I need. It's easy to see that he loves what he teaches. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable. A lot of good information to take back and followup with.
Door Prizes

We frequently offer door prizes at our Seminars that have been donated for that purpose. Our policy regarding recognition for such donations was adapted by the Board of Directors at the July 9, 2016 Board meeting:

  • As recognition for items donated to be used as a door prize we will acknowledge the donor and may place an acknowledgement or an ad in the syllabus. Donors will not be able to distribute flyers or other materials at the event.
  • Speakers may sell their books and references at an event.
  • If we host a themed exhibit in association with an event, invited participants may display and hand out materials related to the topic of the event.
  • If we host an exhibit and charge a fee to exhibit vendors may display their choice of materials.
Consider Volunteering

One thing that makes our seminars so special is the incredible team of volunteers that help with everything from greeting attendees as they arrive to helping to clean up after the seminar ends. Volunteering is easy. You are not required to miss any of the seminar, there are people available to help you in your position, and your fellow seminar attendees are grateful for the assistance you give them. Also, in many cases (depending on speaker availability) volunteers are invited to have dinner with the speaker (at your own expense) Saturday night after the seminar and all volunteers get one entry for every time slot they fulfill that goes into a drawing for a free seminar coupon.
