New England in the Fall – 2021 Fall Seminar
By Suzan Younger
Our Fall Seminar, Maine to Virginia: Finding Your Colonial Ancestors, featured David Allen Lambert on Saturday, October 23, 2021. David treated over ninety attendees to four presentations covering the American colonial period from the New England colonies and Virginia. He began the day by focusing on published and manuscript resources available to research seventeenth-century European immigrants in the American colonies.
The remaining presentations covered New England probate, land, and court records and how to find them in state archives, courthouses, town halls, and online. While these resources are standard for American research, there are particular ways to approach New England records.
Now is the time to apply the research methods Michael Lacapo presented in his April 2021 seminar. Next, you can use the information you learned during Dr. Tom Jones’s writing workshop in July 2021 and write up and publish your findings.
Attendees finished the seminar with a new understanding of the American colonial period, an enhanced understanding of the records, and new research and further study options. Fortunately, attendees had access to the recorded presentations for two weeks, allowing them to review the lecture and note more details about the resources David presented.
