Spreading the Word About DGS
by Jim Thornhill
One Saturday in January our Society was asked to strut its stuff at the Fort Worth Family History Center’s Lineage and Genealogy Fair. Societies from across the Metroplex were there to inform those in attendance about their organizations. The event was in the adjoining gymnasium and associated classrooms. Over 175 people registered to attend the event.
Three classes were offered during the event: African American Research, Adding Context to Your Family Tree, and Researching Your Female Ancestors.
Back at the DGS booth, there was never a dull moment! Volunteers were busy telling fair attendees about the wide variety of programs our society offers to help them with their research. Inquiries were made about our seminars, Special Interest Groups, online records, monthly meetings, and how to become a member of the Dallas Genealogical Society.
We must have made a good impression, because we have been invited to be a part of a similar event that will be held in Duncanville this fall. If this sounds like something you you’d enjoy, we would love to put you on our list of volunteers for this event. Just send us an email at volunteer@dallasgenealogy.org and we’ll send you more details!
