Leaping the Pond
by Jim Thornhill
Our Fall Seminar for 2022 on October 22nd will feature British genealogy specialist Paul Milner. Since most of us will not be able to make the trip to England, we have asked Paul to concentrate on online resources. Paul will be live with us here in Dallas, but as with all our seminars and meetings, it will also be live streamed via Zoom.
This seminar will provide information essential for British Isles research. First, we will learn our way around and discover the difference between a county, parish, and the other governmental districts (those always give me a headache!). Then Paul will tell us the secrets to navigating The National Archives, Great Britain’s national repository. After lunch we’ll explore GENUKI and learn how to get the most out of that valuable website, then we will dive into Find My Past, the British based genealogy database.
Paul Milner has been practicing and teaching genealogy for over 35 years. Born in northern England, he is an accomplished teacher and author on British Isles research and methodology. He is a Utah Genealogical Society Fellow and past board member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, The Federation of Genealogical Societies, and the Genealogical Speakers Guild.
As with all our seminars, volunteers make the day more enjoyable for all. Our volunteers do not miss any of the sessions. If you volunteer to help with a small task during the seminar, you will be invited to join us for dinner with the speaker (at your expense), be entered in a drawing with your fellow volunteers for free admission to a seminar of your choice in 2023, and have the admiration of others attending the seminar. To sign up to help, click on Volunteer Signup on our website. You will be entered for each position you sign up for, so if you help with hospitality for the morning and afternoon, you have two chances to win!
Join us on Saturday, October 22nd as we discover the secrets of British Isles research and have a whole lot of fun in the process!
