Tom Jones Soon! (but don’t expect to hear him sing “Delilah”)
If genealogy had the equivalent of a Hollywood Walk of Fame, Tom Jones would be on it. If genealogy had a Super Bowl, Tom Jones would often be the MVP. In our world of genealogical research, he is indeed a superstar!
REGISTERWhy all this expression of adulation? Because DGS is lucky enough to have snapped Tom up from his very full schedule to be the presenter on our April 13th Spring Seminar. Tom will be tuning in from his home in Ithaca, NY.
DGS members and fans have flocked to see Tom in his previous appearances here. They have relished getting into the deep dive level on writing, editing, and standards of proof.
This time we wanted a theme that centered around the methodology to be successful in blowing up those brick walls we all encounter. You know, those cases that cause your hair to go grayer and reach for the Tylenol bottle at 2am when you can’t make a chink in said wall. Some of the big culprits are scarce, missing, and incorrect records. Another guilty party is the truth disguised as a big plate of nothing at first glance. Tom has put together the following roster to help us get out of these messes.
- Building a Case with Scant Evidence
- Solutions for Missing and Scarce Sources
- Building a Credible Lineage Despite Missing Information, Conflicting and Incorrect Records, and Undocumented Publications
- Going Beyond the Bare Bones: Reconstructing Your Ancestor’s Lives
When I see this list and know Tom will be our teacher, I feel confident my research toolbox is going to weigh a lot more soon!
So, why wait? Get signed up right now for this special day!
Fun Fact: Tom credits reading the National Genealogical Society Quarterly (NGSQ) regularly with taking him from being a middle of the road researcher to the level of expertise he has now. In fact, he liked it so much that he later became the co-editor of that publication for 15 years.
