Timelines are a chronological list of dates and events and are powerful tools for genealogical analysis. By organizing evidence across time and place, timelines can reveal gaps in research, highlight conflicts, distinguish between people with the same name, and identify new questions and avenues for research. They can also help place an ancestor’s life in historical context and provide a framework for writing family history.

This presentation explores practical ways to create and use timelines to analyze evidence and develop a stronger understanding of our ancestors’ lives.
