Be part of the Dallas Genealogical Society’s 2021 Genealogy Research and Writing Contest

Have you ever noticed a historical marker and wondered more about the person named in it? Or wondered how a local landmark or local school got its name?

Put your genealogical skills to work and find out!  Then write up what you found and submit it to our contest.  Some articles may be selected for publishing in the DGS eNews during 2021. At the end of the year, all submissions will be reviewed, and we will pick a winner. The prize is a free membership to DGS for 2022!

You can see one example of an article like this in our January 2021 e-News, submitted by Tony Hanson.

Contest rules:
  • Articles should be between 300 – 2,000 words, exclusive of source notes.
  • Subjects should have relevance to the North Texas area.
  • Submissions must be received between January 1, 2021 – November 15, 2021. Winner will be announced in the December 2021 DGS eNews
  • By entering the contest, you agree that DGS has your permission to publish your article. You agree that you have the rights to publish any image provided to us with your article. All images must include source information.
  • There will be no compensation for the publication of your work; you retain the copyright. Previously published articles may not be eligible, due to copyright restrictions.
  • Please send submissions to newsletter@dallasgenealogy.org
