DGS Board Proposes an Update to the Society’s Bylaws

When the Society’s Bylaws were updated in late 2019 it was evident that the structure of the Board of Directors needed to be revised. This was identified as a priority at the August 2021 Board Planning meeting. A committee (Jim Thornhill, Ann Broihier, Susan Rainwater and Tony Hanson) was appointed to propose a new structure. The committee has met and proposed a new board structure which has been accepted by the Board of Directors.
Our Bylaws, which dictate the board structure, must now be updated to codify the recommended changes. The committee has created a draft version of the Bylaws which was approved by the Board of Directors at the January 2022 board meeting.
To become effective these changes must be published and then approved by the members of the Society. The following steps will be followed leading up to a vote that will be held at the March 2022 General Meeting:
- Notification of the changes – the changes are posted on the website. Articles will be published in the eNews and all members will receive notification via email.
- Public Comment – A Zoom call was held on Thursday January 27th to allow any member to pose questions or provide feedback on any of the proposed changes.
- General Meeting Announcement – The changes will be on the Agenda of the February 2, 2022, General Meeting.
- Vote by the Membership – The vote will be held at the March 5th General Meeting.
