DNA Special Interest Group

September 20, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Dallas Genealogical Society DNA Special Interest Group is beginning the 2018-2019 year with a special speaker: Larry Youngblood.

The meeting will be in the 7th floor, Stone Room, of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 1515 Young Street, 6 pm to 7:30 pm, Thursday, September 20, 2018.

“Colonial Ancestors – Knocking down brick walls with YDNA”

The story of a 40 year journey to confirm his Youngblood family and ancestors began in Houston’s St Luke’s Hospital where his father was recuperating from quadruple bypass surgery. He began a morbid habit to read obituaries and happened upon one that described a Youngblood from Alief TX being returned to Youngblood, Alabama for burial. His father knew virtually nothing of his family other than remembering his grandfather relating that they had some land in Alabama.

Larry and his father learned about all the Youngblood branches…names, dates, migration paths. After his father’s passing in 1987, he worked at a lesser pace until he heard of YDNA and what it could do. He began the YDNA Project in 2004. Brick wall after brick wall began to fall for him and all other Youngblood lines and branches as members joined his project – matching one patriarch or the other – updating the omissions, correcting the records and correcting most all the Youngblood book written prior to YDNA.

Come hear Larry’s journey.
