The DNA Special Interest Group will meet Thursday, May 16, 2019 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Stone Room, on the 7th floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library.
Jan Breshears Thomas will be presenting the DNA SIG program. She has worked with Ancestry’s ThruLines in depth over the past couple of months following more than 800 matches and put them on her tree. She will be discussing this new feature and a few other new features that Ancestry has begun using. If you have not spent much time looking at Ancestry recently, and especially if you have not worked on their DNA on Ancestry, you will be impressed with these additions.
She has developed a method that helps her to understand just what she is finding. As a result of using ThruLines, she believe she has knocked down a brick wall that has bugged her family since at least the 1950s: finding her grandfather’s grandparents on his mother’s side. She says “I began the search after my mother’s death. I have a letter from my grandfather to my mother that states that his mother was an orphan. I’ve mentioned in other DNA meetings that I was looking for them. It will be nice to tell everyone of my discoveries.”
See the DNA Interest Group page for more information on this group.
