DPL at Home: Locating Ancestors on the Dawes Rolls (Virtual Event)

November 10, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Do you have Native American ancestors in your family and want to trace their history? The Dawes Rolls is where you should start. Enrollment of the Dawes Roll for the Five Civilized Tribes was conducted between 1898-1906 for individuals who were living in Indian Territory and could prove that they were enrolled on earlier tribal rolls. Kathy Huber, genealogy librarian at the Tulsa City-County Library, will give a step-by-step explanation of the Dawes Rolls. Discover the real reason the roll was created, how the enrollment was conducted, and how to determine if your ancestor was enrolled.

Kathy Huber has been the genealogy librarian for the Tulsa City-County Library for over 20 years. She manages the Genealogy Center and is responsible for collection development, programming, and community outreach.  Kathy is a native Texan and holds a B.A. in Piano Pedagogy and a Master’s of Library Science, both from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. She has taught genealogy classes for the Oklahoma Library Association, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and has presented programs to local societies and organizations.  Kathy is the author of the NGS Research in the States Oklahoma and Research in the States American Indians of Oklahoma.
