January 8 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm

Topic: The Battle of New Orleans and the Veterans Who Came to Texas

Major General Andrew Jackson owed Britian a debt of retaliatory vengeance from
his imprisonment during the Revolutionary War. He vowed that should our forces
meet, he would pay the debt. On 8 January 1815, Jackson’s army regulars, frontier
militiamen, free blacks, New Orleans aristocrats, Choctaw tribesmen and the pirates
led by Jean Lafitte numbered 4500. They presented the British with an unexpected
onslaught which was the fruit of an honorable union and defeated the invaders in a
span of 30 minutes with a glorious victory. Many of the heroes of the Battle of
New Orleans made their way to the Tri-County Area here in Texas.

We will remember them!
