German Genealogy Group Forming

We’re starting a new SIG for German Genealogy

By Ann Broihier

The group will be free to the general public and will likely meet 5-6 times a year. Every level of experience is welcome. Group meetings will be held in-person at various Dallas Public Libraries and possibly other locations. Additionally, meetings will be live streamed to enable remote participation.

The Inspiration

The second US conference held by the International German Genealogical Partnership (IGGP) was held last June in Sacramento, CA. The IGGP includes groups from around the world focused on German heritage or German genealogy.

At the conference three people from the Dallas area just happened to sit at a table together: Ann Broihier, Tony Hanson, and Kathleen Murray. Their shared interest in German genealogy led them to conduct a survey of others in the North Texas area to gauge interest in forming a group. The response was very positive and DGS is excited to announce that the first meeting is planned for the fall of 2019.
