Out of the Attic: The Hogarth Diary, part 2
1 Jun 1863 – 30 Sep 1863
Recently the Dallas Genealogical Society was privileged to receive of a copy of The Hogarth Civil
War Journal. It is the diary of Thomas Hogarth as transcribed by DGS member Denise Hogarth
Bumford. The diary gives a unique, first-person insight into the daily life of a volunteer soldier
during the US Civil War.
Last month we presented the first portion of the diary covering the period of January 1, 1863 to May 31, 1863. This month we will continue with Hogarth’s diary covering June 1 through September 30, 1863 as he participates in several pivotal battles of the US Civil War.
