Lloyd D. Bockstruck Lectures and Bibliographies

Lloyd D. Bockstruck Lectures and Bibliographies

by Suzan Younger

Lloyd D. Bockstruck was a distinguished genealogical scholar, librarian, writer, educator, and lecturer. He was on staff in the genealogy section of the Central Dallas Public Library for thirty years, much of that time as the supervisor. He was the driving force for establishing the Dallas Public Library’s genealogy section as one of the premier genealogy collections in the United States. On October 26, 2019, the library dedicated the collection as the Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck Collection.

Lloyd donated his private research collection and his lecture handouts and bibliographies to the DPL Genealogy Section upon his death. The Dallas Genealogical Society scanned his lectures, and they are available on the DGS website.

Several of his lectures complement the topics Kelvin Meyers will present during the DGS Summer Seminar 2022 – Gone to Texas – Finding Your Ancestors in Land and Probate. DGS member Kathleen Murray compiled a summary of Lloyd’s lectures covering the period of 1989-2012 with additional information. We invite you to browse the entire collection of Lloyd’s lectures, but we’ve created a list of lectures that feature Texas land, probate, and tax records. You can find most of the listed resources in the Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck Genealogy Collection. You should search the Dallas Public Library’s catalog for details and call numbers of the titles. These resources may be books, microfilm, or microfiche. Remember that Lloyd created these documents before 2012 and that the genealogy section has added significant new resources since then.
