Wood Creek Cemetery is a historic African American cemetery near the southern end of Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster, Texas. The 1980s survey of the cemetery by DGS volunteers has been enhanced and updated based on available death certificates and obituaries in 2020. A number of the death certificates list the burial location as Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster Colored Cemetery, Edgewood Cemetery or Edgewood Colored Cemetery. Sorting out those who were buried in Wood Creek and who may have been buried in Edgewood is complex. A survey Edgewood Cemetery by the Lancaster Genealogical Society was published by the Dallas Genealogical Society in Dallas County Texas: Genealogical Data From Early Cemeteries, Vol. II, published in 1989. Death certificates were compared to this list. Names of African Americans not found on the Edgewood Cemetery list were added to this Wood Creek Cemetery database.
