2024 Writing Contest: Movers & Shakers
For the 2024 DGS Writing Contest, we’d like to hear about your family’s movers and shakers – the people who made an impact on their community.
Tell us about an ancestor who made a difference in their town or county. Maybe they taught at a local school, ran a youth program at their church, or built the first store in town. It’s wide open! We want your stories! Write them up and submit the article to the DGS newsletter.
Worthy articles will be selected for publishing in the DGS eNews during 2024. At the end of the year, we will pick a winner. The prize is a free 1-year membership to DGS for 2025!
Contest rules:
- Articles should be between 300–2000 words, not including source notes.
- Subjects can be anyone in your research.
- Articles must be in Word or other text format.
- Please use Word’s endnotes function instead of the footnotes function.
- Source notes don’t need to be complicated – include enough that other researchers could locate the same information.
- Submissions must be received between 15 Nov 2023-15 Nov 2024. The winner will be announced in the January 2025 DGS eNews.
- By entering the contest, you agree that DGS has your permission to publish and archive your article. You agree that you have the rights to publish any image provided to us with your article. VERY IMPORTANT: You must provide source information for all images. The images must be in the public domain, or you must have permission to use them.
- There will be no compensation for the publication of your work; you retain the copyright. Previously published articles may not be eligible if there are copyright restrictions.
- Please send submissions to newsletter@dallasgenealogy.org.
If you would like additional information on the Dallas Genealogical Society’s approach to style, see the style guidelines.
