Out of the Attic: Travis Middle School Bands – A Winter Concert, December 15, 1992
Veteran members of the Society will remember a time when transcriptions of family records – bible pages, newspaper articles, obituaries, funeral programs, commencement programs, and so on – were regularly found in the pages of our publications. We’d like to revive this practice and start featuring family records in our monthly eNews. We need your help to accomplish this.
Rummage around in your genealogical “attic” for unique family records. Then email us a transcription. Include an introductory paragraph to explain what the record is and where you found it. We’ll do the rest.
Send your records to newsletter@dallasgenealogy.org.
Travis Middle School Bands (Irving, Texas) – A Winter Concert, December 15, 1992
by Suzan Younger
School records from the past can be a challenge to find. However, if you have a student currently enrolled, the school’s website can provide a wealth of information about the student’s academic experience. Social media such as Facebook and Twitter may document the school’s activities and is available to the public. School activities often produce programs that may list students, teachers, and administrators by name. You have likely attended school functions for children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. You may have school programs in a drawer or scrapbook. Take another look at the information in such a program through the eyes of a genealogist. Does the information place an individual(s) in a location, at a specific time and date, engaging in an activity?
This is a program for the Travis Middle School winter concert held on December 15, 1992. The program connects 151 students, 4 school administrators, and 13 faculty to Travis Middle School. You can view a copy of the program here. It may add to the story of one of these students for an inquiring genealogist. Travis Middle School is located at 1600 Finley, Irving, Dallas County, Texas. It is a feeder school for Irving’s MacArthur High School. Both are part of the Irving (Texas) Independent School District.
