Quarterly Digitization Project Completed
The Dallas Genealogical Society published a Quarterly journal from the inception of the society in 1955 through 1994. These publications contain a wealth of information about the early history of the society, the Dallas Public Library and articles documenting genealogy research performed by our members.
In early 2017 the board decided to initiate a project to digitize these publications and archive them on the Portal to Texas History. The total cost of the effort was estimated to be $4,175.25.
The DGS applied for and received a “Rescuing Texas History” grant of $1000 from the University of North Texas in 2017. The society also initiated fund-raising efforts that included participation in the 2017 North Texas Giving Day which resulted in donations in the amount of $3,720.48.
The digitization was completed earlier this year and the publications are now available on the Portal to Texas History. The final cost to the DGS was $3,491.45, which left a balance of $229.03 in the fund.
During the fundraising effort we stated that any remaining funds would be donated to the Cathy Nelson Hartmann Portal to Texas History Endowment. The board agreed to round the donation up to $250: the check will be presented to the Endowment at this year’s Annual Awards Luncheon.
