Our Upcoming 2023 Spring Seminar: The Ever-Present Law
Joseph Bradley once said “Society cannot exist without the law.” Fortunately for us, our society has always followed his advice. And as Judy Russell, our presenter for our April 22nd 2023 Spring Seminar, points out, following the law can be the key to finding our ancestors and learning the details of their lives.
The four sessions for this seminar will all focus on finding your ancestors. “Finding the Law Time and Time Again” will help you find the laws for each state and the times when they were written.
“Making a Federal Case Out of It” will look at an underutilized resource, the Federal Court records, and how to find our ancestors in that system.
“From 1619 to Juneteenth” will examine how learning pre-emancipation slave laws will help us learn about both the enslaved and the slave owner.
Finally, “Dower and Dowry: Women, Property, and Legal Records” will help us track the assets a woman had, either before or during marriage, and use those to identify our female ancestors.
Judy will be joining us in person at the Central Library in Dallas. The seminar will also be live streamed via Zoom. If you can join us in Dallas, we would love to see you, but you can also join us from any convenient location.
Compliance with the law was sometimes the only record our ancestors left behind. Come to our Spring Seminar on April 22nd to learn how to find the evidence your ancestor left for you. Register now to take advantage of discounted pricing!
