The Gift That Keeps on Giving

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

This summer DGS participated in a North Texas Giving Day campaign to benefit Dallas Public Library patrons. We set a goal to raise funds to finance two key databases which would be available both at the library and from any location where library cardholders have internet access.

One of these, HistoryGeo.com, is a database where you can find original landowners in most locations across the United States and pair these with historic maps to find details about the place your ancestors lived at the time they lived there. The other is NewspaperArchive.com, one of the leading newspaper databases, with 16,000 newspapers from 1609 to the current day.

Through the contributions of some generous donors, the society raised almost $2000 toward the subscription price of these databases.

Plans have already started for North Texas Giving Day 2023. Lessons were learned in 2022 about how to run an effective campaign, and these will be applied next year to raise even more money to offset the cost of these two valuable software packages.

If you missed North Texas Giving Day, another opportunity to support DGS is available. With the end of the year approaching, you can make a tax-deductible gift that will help us fulfill our mission of providing quality education, preserving records, and supporting the genealogy section of the Dallas Public Library. A year end gift would help your fellow genealogists for years to come. Truly, a gift that keeps on giving!
