WiFi at the DPL

WiFi at the DPL

by Tony Hanson

Due to recent cost-cutting steps, the Dallas Public Library is no longer making Wi-Fi hotspots available to patrons and organizations who meet at the library. This has proven to be especially problematic for our organization because the Wi-Fi network available to the public has proven to be unsuitable for use at our meetings and seminars.

As a result, the Dallas Genealogical Society identified a low-cost Wi-Fi provider and have purchased a 32-port Wi-Fi router and are paying for a cellular access plan. This will allow us to continue to provide high quality and reliable connectivity for our Zoom presentations. In between meetings the router will be placed on the 8th floor and will be available to patrons of the Genealogy and History section of the Dallas Public Library. Library staff will provide visitors with the information required to establish a connection.
