Winner of 2024 Lloyd Bockstruck Scholarship announced
Congratulations to Kat Johnson
Kat Johnston, a librarian with the Genealogy & History Division, has won the Lloyd Bockstruck Scholarship Award.
Kat Johnston will be attending the virtual IGHR (Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research) in July 2024. Kat has selected the “Intermediate Genealogy and Historical Studies” course to attend, which as you might remember, is the course that Lloyd Bockstruck always taught during his tenure as an IGHR instructor.
This will be Kat’s first professional genealogy conference to attend. Kat has been a librarian with the Genealogy & History Division for just over a year, but has already revolutionized our programming to include more social history and multi-disciplinary approaches including the FoDPL funded series: Meals & Memories series which honors cultural heritage and family memories through food and recipes! We are excited that Kat will have the opportunity to get the professional genealogical training, to go along with her outstanding programming and collection development in the Genealogy & History Division.
The Lloyd Bockstruck Scholarship Award celebrates the remarkable legacy of Lloyd Bockstruck (1945-2018), a true legend who led the Library’s Genealogy Section while also making waves as an author, educator, and Dallas Morning News columnist. Thanks to the
generous support from the Dallas Genealogical Society, we’re thrilled to team up with them to administer the scholarships.
