1921 United Kingdom Census: England, Wales and Scotland
by Barbara A, Ware, Ph.D.
As U. S. genealogists are getting excited about the upcoming availability of 1950 population census on April 1, 2022, United Kingdom researchers will be celebrating the opening of the 1921 census for England and Wales. Yes, 1921! The UK makes census available every 100 years.
In October, The National Archives (TNA) in Kew announced that this census will be published by FindMyPast.com on January 6, 2022. This is an important census because it is the last census for 30 years. The 1931 census was lost in a fire and no census was taken in 1941. Hear more about it on this podcast: https://media.nationalarchives.gov.uk/index.php/counting-down-to-the-1921-census/
The National Archives will provide access to the census at its location in Kew, England. But on this side of the pond, you will be able search the records through the subscription site FindMyPast.com.
Scotland’s 1921 census will be available through ScotlandsPeople.com in the latter half of 2022.
